Spring Natural Dyes Workshop (Online)

Spring is a season of renewal, hope and new beginnings. Our landscapes emerge from their slumber with a new vision, the dawn chorus fills the air and the sight of primroses, daffodils and dandelions reminds us of the subtleties of everyday beauty.

Hedgerows, gardens and kitchens are home to an abundance of flowers, leaves and vegetable skins that can be used to create a kaleidoscope of natural dyes - from golden onion cases to vibrant young nettles.

In this Spring Natural Dyes workshop, we’ll discuss spring dye stuffs, suitable fabrics and mordanting plus discussing working with nature in a responsible, harmonious way.

You’ll learn how to make a dye bath, solar dye and the intuitive technique of bundle dyeing, methods that can be used to colour textiles and garments.

THIS WORKSHOPS INCLUDES

  • Spring dye stuffs that can be found in the garden, hedgerow or kitchen

  • Suitable natural fabrics for dyes (and what not to use)

  • Basic mordanting and folk modifiers

  • Simple home dyeing techniques: dye bath, bundle dyeing, solar dyes

  • Aftercare for dyes

  • Cyclical creativity & working in harmony with nature.

Our time together will be a blend of conversation and demonstrations, you are welcome to make notes and will be sent a copy of SALT’s An Introduction to Natural Dyes Guide.

This workshop will be recorded and available for 30 days after.
